In 2012, Xiaomi, a renowned Chinese electronics company, fell victim to a significant data breach, leading to the exposure of sensitive personal information belonging to millions of its customers. The breach, which was one of the most extensive at the time, involved the unauthorized access and exfiltration of a massive database containing over 7,088,010 records.

The leaked data included a wide range of personal details, including names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, and even hashed passwords. The compromised data was said to have originated from Xiaomis user forums and other online platforms, where customers shared their information for various purposes, such as product registration, support, and community engagement.
