The War Z database leak in 2012 was a major cybersecurity breach that exposed sensitive information about players of the popular online game War Z. On December 18, 2012, a hacker dumped 320,507 records from the games database onto the internet, revealing a treasure trove of personal information about the games players.

The leaked data included user IDs, passwords, email addresses, IP addresses, and other identifying information. It also included details about player behavior, such as the levels they had reached, the weapons they had unlocked, and the points they had earned. Additionally, the leak exposed the games internal scoreboards, which listed the top-scoring players in various categories.

The hackers gained access to the database by exploiting a vulnerability in the games web-based interface. Once inside, they downloaded the entire database and published it online. The breach was significant not just because of the volume of data exposed, but also because it revealed the games internal workings and the level of detail the games developers had collected about their players.

The leak had serious consequences for the games developers, OP Productions, and its publisher, Hamzi(lengthilyventure(sic). The incident led to a loss of player trust, a decline in game sales, and a wave of negative publicity for the company.
