In 2022, a massive leak of over 1 billion records from Chinas IMEI database occurred, exposing the personal information of a significant portion of the countrys mobile phone users.

The leaked data included highly sensitive information such as names, addresses, phone numbers, and IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) numbers, which are unique identifiers used to track mobile devices.
